You're spoilt for choice with the beaches in Pattaya

Pattaya and it's surrounding areas offer numerous sandy beaches that are popular with both locals and tourists alike, so you're sure to find a place to relax by the sea. Pattaya Beaches in the area include:

  • Pattaya Beach
  • Cosy Beach
  • Na Jomtien Beach
  • Na Klua Beach
  • Bang Saray
  • Jomtien Beach
  • Dongtan Beach
  • Wong Amat Beach
  • Baan Amphur

Wednesdays in Pattaya and Jomtien are 'sunbed free days' - meaning that operators of sunbeds and beach umbrellas are not allowed to operate on the beaches. This doesn't mean the beaches are closed - it leaves the beaches lovely and clear, with more space, and tourists can enjoy a day at the beach in a more peaceful atmosphere (don't forget your beach towel!).

Pattaya Beach

Pattaya has a 4 km stretch of bustling beach offering numerous water sport activities, including scuba diving, wind surfing, banana boating, parasailing, jet skiing and deep-sea fishing to name a few. Trips to the nearby islands, including the scenic island of Koh Larn (Coral Island) are also available from here. Being floodlit at night the beach can be enjoyed at any time!

Along the beach you will find large umbrellas and beach chairs, offering you shade from the hot sun, and areas to relax and enjoy food and drinks served to your tables from the beach vendors.

The northern part of Pattaya Beach is the quietest area, and the beach gets busier as you head south, with more beach chairs, vendors and sports activities.

Jomtien Beach

Jomtien Beach is a quieter beach area to the south of Pattaya, and boasts 6 km of golden sandy beach, lined by palm trees and Jomtien Beach Road, which offers numerous restaurants, bars, markets and shops.

The beach has plenty of space and includes large areas of uninterrupted sand, along with areas with umbrellas and deckchairs, offering shelter from the hot sun and places to relax and purchase food and drink from the local beach vendors.

The northern end of the beach is reasonably busy and offers numerous water sport activities, including scuba diving, wind surfing, banana boating, parasailing, jet skiing and deep-sea fishing to name a few, along with an area for volleyball and beach football.

For a quieter atmosphere head to the southern end which is much more tranquil. You are even able to watch the fishing boats land and unload their fresh catches, available for purchase, in the early mornings. There is also a sand bar halfway along the beach where you can walk a fair distance out into the sea, without going much more than ankle deep in the water.

At night Jomtien Beach has a great atmosphere and you are able to take a swim in the floodlit areas. There are plenty of bars in the beach areas, and is a more family friendly area than its neighbouring Pattaya City. There is also a Night Market offering clothing, tourist memorabilia and food.

Pattaya City is a short trip from the Jomtien Beach area, which offers a wealth of attractions.

Cosy Beach

Cosy Beach is one of the finest beaches in Pattaya, being a very clean and well-maintained area of golden sand. It is situated in a tranquil bay in Pratumnak, a prime spot for tourists and expats, between Pattaya and Jomtien. The beach is accessible via steps down a cliff side, and you can expect a lovely peaceful atmosphere here.

You can find sun loungers and umbrellas here for some shade, and enjoy food and drink on the beach served by vendors of the local restaurants, however you will not get hassled by as many beach vendors here as you would on other beaches in Pattaya, and there are no water sports, so this allows you to relax in peace!

There are several restaurants, markets and massage stalls here, and the backdrop of wooded cliff offers spectacular scenic views.

Dongtan Beach

Dongtan Beach is a lovely secluded beach area located between Jomtien and Pattaya; starting as Jomtien Beach ends. Dongtan is around 1.5km of clean golden sand and lined by coconut palms and broad leaf trees.

This beach is very well maintained and is one of the quietest beaches in the Pattaya area, due to no traffic being allowed on the small road next to it between 10am and 5pm; making this an idyllic place to spend a quiet day relaxing on a beach chair.

Dongtan beach offers seating areas with beach umbrellas and chairs, which are served by several restaurants and cafes along the road, so you can relax and eat/drink on the beach in comfort. There is a large area set aside for swimming, and does not have as many speed boats in the area as the neighbouring Pattaya and Jomtien beaches do, making it a lovely, peaceful area.

Dongtan is popular with the gay community, and you will be able to find male massage areas along the beach.

The sea in this area is reasonably clear and the beach is clean with very scenic areas along it. There are no water sports available in this area, which is great for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere. However, if you would like to enjoy water sports, a walk along the beach towards Jomtien, you will be able to find numerous activities on Jomtien Beach.

Dongtan Beach is ideal for a night-time stroll, having overhead lighting for much of the night, and the restaurants and bars here are open until late.

Na Jomtien Beach

You will find Na Jomtien Beach 4km south of Pattaya City; it is a lovely quiet 3km long beach, which connects Jomtien Beach to the south.

This area is very popular with the locals on the weekends, and is great for tourists and families who prefer a quieter area to relax. The beach is lined with upscale hotels and resorts, restaurants and bars, along the shady beach road.

Wong Amat Beach

Wong Amat Beach is situated between Naklua Beach to the north and Pattaya Beach to the south, and is a 3km long gentle curve of peaceful, scenic beach, being one of the cleanest and most secluded in Pattaya.

There are no watersports and fewer traders here than on Pattaya Beach, which allows for a tranquil atmosphere, although you can see the local fishermen are at work in this area. Deck chairs are available along the beach, and food at a few restaurants.

Na Klua Beach

Na Klua Beach, located to the north of Pattaya Beach, was once a fishing community. People depended on fishing and salt farming for a living, and you can still see small fishing communities here today, which provide fresh produce for the excellent restaurants in the area. The beach is quieter than Pattaya Beach, with no water sports activities; it is a clean beach of golden sand with clear waters.

Baan Amphur

Baan Amphur is a small fishing village known for its seafood restaurants, which offer lovely fresh produce, with some restaurants being built over the sea giving a lovely tranquil atmosphrere. There is also a picturesque fishing harbour and beautiful views over the sea and the distant islands.

You will find a lovely wide sandy, palm tree lined beach here, which is very clean and much quieter than the beaches of Pattaya and Jomtien. Although very quiet during the week the beach is popular with locals on the weekends. There are beach vendors here who will bring food and drinks to your seat on the beach under the shade of an umbrella, allowing for a lovely beach dining experience.

Baan Amphur Village is a quiet, peaceful and family friendly area. It is not far from Pattaya (around a 15 minute drive) where you will find numerous shops, markets, temples, restaurants and bars along with a vibrant night life and a variety of tourist attractions to keep you entertained.

Bang Saray

Bang Saray is a peaceful fishing village, about a 20-minute drive from Pattaya, which has maintained its natural charm and has a very laid back and friendly community. The village boasts a lovely, spotless sandy beach with serene turquoise waters, which is rarely busy and offers excellent opportunities for relaxing, having a barbecue on the beach and sampling fresh food from the beach vendors.

In the village you will find local shops, convenience stores, restaurants, beauty salons, massage parlours and motorbike taxi's. There are a few Thai style karaoke bars and several sea food restaurants by the piers where you can sample their fresh produce.
